Kenya National Parks and Game Reserves

Amboseli National Park

Amboseli offers some of the best opportunities to see African animals because its vegetation is sparse due to the long dry months. Amboseli National Park is home to wild animals, which include the African elephant, buffalo, impala, lion, cheetah, hyena, giraffes, zebra, wildebeest among other African animals. Amboseli National Park is the best place to enjoy the scenic beauty of Africa's highest Mountain, The Kilimanjro

Masai Mara National Reserve

Masai Mara is pristine African wilderness. Itís the northern extension of the rolling plains of the Serengeti. The reserve is world famous for its vast assemblage of plainsí game together with their assorted predators. It is perhaps the only area remaining in the world where one may see wildlife in the same super abundance as existed years ago.

It is the stage for the annual migration Ė hundreds of thousands of Wildebeest and Zebra follow the timeless ritual of migration, moving from Serengeti in Tanzania to Maasai Mara in search of fodder as they have done since time immemorial.

Aberdares National Park

Aberdare National Park offers many activities and tourist attractions, as well as wildlife safaris. One of the main features of Aberdare National Park is that it is home to the second largest population of black rhinos, which are an endangered species. The Ark or Treetops lodges is one of the major attractions at the Aberdares National Park. In fact, it was while vacationing at the Treetops lodge that Princess Elizabeth of Great Britain learned her father had died, thus making her Queen.

Nairobi National Park

This is the only national park in the world located within the vicinity of a Capital city. Nairobi National Park is perhaps best known for its significant black rhino sanctuary. This is the best place to see these endangered animals in their native environment. There are no elephants in this national park, but four of the "Big Five" can be seen here (lions, leopards, buffalo and rhinos).

Tsavo East National Park

Tsavo East National Park is a natural area of flat, dry plains, with thorny bushes and swampy marshland near the rivers that cross through the park. Animals you may see during your visit to Tsavo East National Park include Cape buffalo, cheetahs, duikers, African elephants, gazelles, gerenuks, giraffes, hares, hartebeests, hyenas, impalas, leopards, lions, etc

Tsavo West National Park

Tsavo West National Park encompasses mountains and hills , savanna bush and semi-arid desert scrub, acacia woodland, palm thickets, rivers and the tranquil Lake Jipe Kudu - one of Kenya's animals found in Tsavo. Tsavo West Park is also the home of the man-eaters of Tsavo, the lions which brought the construction of the railway to a standstill. The local people believed that the lions were reincarnated chiefs protesting the invasion of their land by foreigners.

Lake Nakuru National Park

Lake Nakuru National Park is renowned as a bird sanctuary with over 400 bird species, including huge flocks of flamingoes and many other water birds. It is an excellent park for wildlife spotting and is home to many water-loving animals such as hippos and waterbucks.

Samburu National Reserve

Samburu National Reserve is a rugged and semi-desert park located in Samburu district in the Rift Valley Province of Kenya. The Ewaso Nyiro River cuts through the Samburu reserve, drawing a big population of  animals to the park. The river bustles with activity from its huge population of Nile crocodile. Samburu National Reserve was one of the two areas in which conservationists George and Joy Adamson raised Elsa the Lioness. Their story was made famous by the bestselling book and award-winning movie "Born Free".

Shimba Hills National Reserve

The scenic Shimba Hills National Reserve ( just 33km south of Mombasa.) was established in 1968 and is located in the Kwale region of Coast Province. Shimba Hills National Reserve is one of the largest areas of coastal rainforest in East Africa covering 24,000 hectares, it is also home to the endangered Sable antelope which only be seen in this reserve in the whole of Kenya.
